National Apprenticeship Week – Meet Beth

How has your apprenticeship experience at Taylex Group helped you develop practical skills that you can apply in your chosen field?

Taylex Group has taught me many skills. From carpentry to labouring, painting, electrics and more. I will always value the training I have been given throughout my two years being an apprentice.

What do you find most valuable about the mentorship and guidance you receive from Taylex during your apprenticeship?

The people within Taylex Group have treated me like family throughout. I think the most valuable aspect has been that I have been able to make so many connections within the industry and never get judged for not understanding the task at hand.

Can you share a specific project or task you’ve worked on during your apprenticeship that has challenged you and helped you grow both personally and professionally?

BST Hyde Park is a stand-out project for me, and one that will stick in my memory for a long time. This event gave me the opportunity to learn how to drive plant vehicles, which against an iconic backdrop of Hyde Park was unforgettable. I also had the opportunity to build and cover stud walls for the first time.

Personally, the project gave me confidence within carpentry and in general.

In what ways do you believe your apprenticeship has prepared you for the demands and expectations of the workforce in your industry?

The demands of the exhibition industry change daily. Each job is different so I think my apprenticeship has helped me to understand the various job roles, positions and tasks, including carpentry, painting, decorating, labouring, driving the PLANTS and more.

As an apprentice, what advice would you give to other young individuals considering apprenticeships as a pathway to entering the workforce and building a successful career?

Pick your course and company carefully, making sure that they benefit and lead you to the career you want in the future.

Consider all your options.
